As of March 25, 2008 the National Park Service has granted
the downhill bicycle tour industry van tour permits. What this means
to you is Cruiser Phil's Volcano Riders now has a seamless operation
and is responsible for you 100% of the day. We will continue to do everything
in our power to ensure your safety. The restrictions have changed so
please read them carefully.
The National Park Service did an incredible job with the safety analysis report.
You can view the report in full by clicking on the yellow button entitled "National
Park Safety Study" on the left side of the page or by going
to www.nps.gov/hale. To quote the NPS Study Team, " Cruiser Phil’s have very low accident rates which may indicate that a particular company-specific operating practice can produce low accident rates. "

Take a Luxury VAN TOUR from the summit
of Haleakala National Park then COAST 28 MILES from the 6500' elevation, down
Haleakala Volcano descending to historic Paia at sea level. Enjoy fresh outdoor
air, views to make your heart pound, and hairpin turns to make your
heart race.

Only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- - On
Tuesdays and Thursdays you will meet our guide in the town of Paia at 8:15 am at the Moana Café. You will then proceed to the summit of Haleakala
in our van to view the Crater. After viewing the National Park you will
descend to the staging area at 6,500 ft. At the staging area, our guide will
give
you instructions and expectations as to the rules of the road. A map of
your route which includes our phone numbers, and a list of restaurants you
may
encounter along the way. A backpack will also be provided for you to store
your personal belongings. Your route will include a couple of mandatory
checkpoints along the way where your guide will double check your equipment
and provide
further information for the remainder of your tour. You will also be given
a time to meet back in Paia, ample time will be allowed for you to stop
and eat in Kula, Makawao, or Paia. Our guide will position himself in Paia
at
the Moana Café to receive the equipment back from you.

The above rides all include Helmet, Windbreaker
suit, Insulated gloves and a "winter type jacket"
for your added safety and comfort.

Restrictions:
- This ride is NOT for beginners; please be an experienced cyclist, having
ridden a bicycle in at least the past 12 months.
- Participants must wear closed toed shoes.
- Wear warm clothing in layers; it’s best to wear a pair of short
with sweat pants over that, a short sleeve shirt, long sleeve shirt and
a jacket.
- No pregnant women; take the day off and relax.
- Riders should be at least 15 years old and under 65 years of age.
- Riders should be at least 5 feet tall.
- Maximum weight for bike rider is 250 lbs.
- No one with medical conditions that would adversely effect them in
this activity should participate.
- Riders must sign acknowledgment of risk & safety form as well
as a medical/ physical clearance form.
